“Front of House”: a term used to describe the show related materials on the facade of a theatrical building.
“Tear Down the House”: a song from Act II of Memphis
“Tear Down the (Front of) House”: a particularly witty blog title I have to say.
Look, I am probably one of the most sentimental people when it comes to this stuff. I mean, the VERY FIRST entry of this blog on August 6, 2009, was about these mesh hangings being put up. http://www.memphisthemusical.com/blog/2009/08/06/hello-world/ So yes, it is pretty bittersweet to have these come down. “Change Don’t Come Easy.”
As Charlie said when he sent me this photo, it feels like the end of an era. I like to re-frame it and call it the beginning of the next chapter.
I mean in terms of “messaging,” announcing your 2010 TONY Award win for Best Musical pretty much trumps any feelings of sentimentality one may have for this original artwork. (Though there will not be any sentimental feelings when that scaffolding comes down- “you’re blocking my front of house!”)

The view on 44th Street. It almost doesn’t look real…

I suppose this requires a trip to the Second Floor of Sardis to make sure it looks ok. Probably around 6:30pm tomorrow when they are passing out the mini veggie pizza bites…

Tis a bit sad to see the old banners come down…but the new ones are very pretty…Daniel told me Memphis was home b/c he was on the banners…it’s still his home right?

I hope someone scooped up that banner and took it home. It would make awesome wallpaper in someones family room. ;) Long live Memphis!
