The quote I missed was about light.

As reported earlier in the week, Joe, Chad and Dan’yelle were part of a panel for the Broadway Teachers Worksop at Playwright’s Horizon. Another panel was held on Friday featuring Joe, Montego and Bryan. And it was great. I felt like I was a student at the College of Memphis, aka “Huey- U”, which would be incrediby awesome if that really existed. Imagine the course work you could take…”Backstage Politics 101,” “The History of Bobby and Ethel,” “Show me what you’re working with- a masterclass in percussion with ‘Chester’.” And, naturally the school’s mascot would be a Gator, and there would be a Gator Dance at every halftime. And coaches would not have Gatorade dumped on their heads after victory- no, that would be too on the nose. At the College of Memphis/ “Huey U”, there would of course be ‘brown water’ on the sidelines. I digress.

So the panel was great and everyone was looking sharp and keeping the crowd entertained.

Sorry, a totally self-serving shot of the shoes because that is how I roll.

And of course, when asked how the audiences have reacted since the TONY win, Montego said the most beautiful thing about the piece always having had light and…and well, I wasn’t flip caming that moment.

Probably because I was too enthralled to realize I was missing the moment and I am TERRIBLE at recreating conversations- terrible. So I can’t remember what she said, but it was goose bump worthy and heart melting and felt like it encapsulated everythgn I feel about working on this show. And I missed it. Epic Fail.

But, story after story tumbled out that I had never heard and while I couldn’t flip cam everything, I did edit together a few of my favorite momemts from Friday’s panel.

Enjoy!

This is yet another wonderful window into why Memphis is so special – the clips in the video are fantastical!

Sometimes one just has to be in the moment which means no photos, no flip cam recording – only the memory of the experience..you were in the moment and how wonderful is that!
