Once Upon a Time and Long Ago

For the holidays, my father sent me every program he had saved from years of seeing shows at TheatreWorks, Palo Alto; the gem of that being that in the middle of those dozens and dozens of programs was the Memphis playbill from that early production.

Looking through this program was delightful. Some highlights:

1. Apparently there used to be a character named “Honey Malone” in the show AND there was hula hooping. I must investigate both of these tidbts more fully.

2. Seeing what Chad, Montego, Derrick, James and J. Bernard looked like in 2004. In case you have forgotten what was happening in 2004, it was the year John Kerry was the Democratic Presidental nominee, the year Facebook was founded, and Avenue Q won the TONY Award.

The boyfriend is telling me I have to wrap it up to make our dinner reservation. He is suggesting that I use “Memphis is awesome. The End” to end this post.

I think I will put my own spin on it:

I hope you have enjoyed this little stroll down memory lane.

Memphis is awesome.

Goodnight, and Hockadoo.
