2010- The Year of MEMPHIS and some Football
Sorry that the report is a day or two late…I am still trying to recover from the festivities leading up and through the New Year. Between family and friends old and new coming to NYC to see MEMPHIS….I have been one step behind. Don’t worry, one of my resolutions is to be more organized and manage my time better!! This doesn’t bode well for me. I have been one of the Nation’s Top Procrastinators for quite some time…I always manage to get it done…I just enjoy the challenge of waiting until the last minute.
Well, I am getting a little too “advanced” for that nonsense. I will resolve to do better!! This resolution, naturally, is not valid if the taking of the brown water is involved….
SO, you know how there is the Year of the Chicken and the Year of the Monkey….well, I think we should make 2010 The Year of MEMPHIS!! I, for one, am going to do what I can to make sure all of the people who “promise” to come see the show actually get to NY and see it.
The great thing about this show is that once people see it, they wanna see it again and they start telling people to see it!! That, friends, is called “word of mouth”….
SO, back to New Years. The Eve was pretty tame. Both my friend Holly and our very own Chad each had parties. I attended both…both were fun! Very low key and lovely. I decided to steer clear of the brown water that night….a wise decision. For you see, on New Years Day….
It was The Gator Bowl!! My alma mater..FSU….played in the Gator Bowl against WVU. It was an important game because it was the last game that my beloved Bobby Bowden coached. After many years as the head of the Florida State football program, Bobby B. was coaching his last game.
Liz, Nicole and I decided to meet up and celebrate the end of this era and cheer our team on to victory…We met at good ole Hibernia (remember that is the place Jermaine and I guest bartended for charity?) and ordered some wings and….diet coke?
After not such a great start, we were down 14-3, we switched from diet coke to something a little harder….you guessed it.
At this point my friend from home who went to WVU started talking ALOT of smack via text about how we were gonna lose…Well, the final score was 33-21…and guess who won? THAT’S RIGHT!! FLORIDA STATE!!!
Certainly a victory for my team in 2010 means great things are in store!!! Right then and there on New Years Day I vowed to put my heart and soul into making MEMPHIS the best that it can be in 2010.
Dear friends of the family, Paul and Shirley Passerini, came to see the show this past week. They are theatre BUFFS!! They see everything!!
Naturally, they knew very little about MEMPHIS (as it is ORIGINAL!!)…well, on a scale of 1 to 10 –Paul gave MEMPHIS an 11. They were truly blown away and promptly bought the cast album!! This week, my friend Nicole (from the game) and her new husband are seeing the show!! I’m gonna try and get someone here weekly!! How’s about you??
Hockadoo!!

Celebrity Sighting of the week – there were LOTS this past week at the show….Carolyn already usurped Gayle King (who was SINGING and DANCING in the aisle)….so I am gonna continue the football theme and go with Mark Sanchez…the QB of the JETS!!! He got the cd as well!! Congrats on the JETS going to the playoffs!!

Kevin,
I could not agree with you more! I saw Memphis over the holidays and was
totally blown away. I am addicted to the music…play it night and day! Just
bought tickets and will fly to NYC to see it again in March. I am a true
disciple and will do all in my power to spread the word that this is the best in
Broadway musicals…right up there with West Side Story. In face I predict that
in 40 years people will still be dancing in the aisles to the beat of MEMPHIS.
Hockadoo!
