The Covert Report- Vol. 10

kevinThe Covert Report – Week 10

The Secret Santa

Ladies and Gentlemen…I give you Hillary Elk.

Not only is this little nugget fresh off the pickle boat and right on to Broadway, but she turned out to be one AMAZING Secret Santa!!

For those that don’t know, Secret Santa is a game where you get gifts or clues as to who your own personal Santa Claus will be…then it ends in a party (in our case, a potluck in the lower lobby of the Shubert) where your Santa is revealed.

Well, from the day after we drew names, I received a gift EVERY DAY. I got a beautiful bottle of wine, pear Jelly Belly’s (my fave), Shirts from Urban Outfitters (3!!), an amazing loop scarf, beautiful new gloves. THEN for the last gift, I got an entire BAG full of goodies. A Redskins hat and T-shirt (YES, they suck but I was born and raised a Washington Redskins fan and I will wear my colors proudly!!), a beautiful sweater, a Christmas Candle, and….wait for it….A bottle of Woodord Reserve….one of the best brown waters out there!!

So, you see, Hillary Elk amazing!! A quick shout out to her as well as she booked her first television pilot for a new show on Comedy Central. This girl came bursting out of the gates and ain’t stopping!!!

I was the Secret Santa for Brad Bass (or Bradsiepoos as I like to call him). He didn’t do too poorly in the gift department either!!

I must also take a second and thank my friend Kathy’s boss Jeff Gold. He and his family saw the show on Sunday afternoon, and they left me a nice bottle of brown water at the stage door afterwards. Nice to know that someone out there is reading my blog and following instructions.

I always enjoy the holidays in NYC. Everyone is so festive and happy. There is always a good party. My friend Holly had one on Christmas Eve where everyone was told to bring a 25 dollar gift for White Elephant. That is a game where you draw numbers and the first person gets a gift, then the second person can steal it or get a new gift, etc etc. I ended up with a Hot Chocolat Pot….um, thanks Jermaine….What does one even do with a hot chocolate pot? What is a hot chocolate pot? Who invented a hot chocolate pot?

The party was a blast and it was nice to hang out with some of my dearest friends. My beautiful friend Mia (who is getting married in July in….wait for it….SAINT LUCIA) actually asked me to be an usher at her wedding!! I am SO excited. Naturally I said no….NOT!!

Then on Christmas Day I returned to my pal Holly’s pad and she cooked up a storm (she is an AMAZING actress, but she is also one hell of a cook…she is even taking classes at The French Culinary Institute….a decision she made after she and I saw “Julie and Julia” I might add…). We had caviar pie, an amazing puff pastry filled with brie and mushrooms and cranberries, beef tender, mashed potatoes, green beans…and some sort of pie that took 4 hours to make, but was a slice of heaven in your mouth!! Thanks for making my Christmas so special Holly!!

Last night another dear friend from High School and her husband came to see MEMPHIS!! Maggie and Luan are two of my favorite people in the World, and we always have such an amazing time together. Inevitably Luan will go to bed and Maggie and I will sit up and catch up until the wee hours. Last night was no exception…Thank Heaven that today is Monday and a day off.

WAIT…it isn’t a day off!! We have a show tonight due to the Holiday Schedule!! I gotta go shave!!! Good thing I didn’t break into a brown water this afternoon!!

A very Happy New Year to all you MEMPHIS fans!!! The word is starting to spread…keep it going!!!

xo,
Kevin
